Welcome Home

I'm not sure where the line between ad and short film is, but this four-minute video—directed by Spike Jonze—is a delight. Watch the whole thing, full-screen, and then check out AdWeek's fantastic behind-the-scenes look at how the video was made.

And here's the behind-the-scenes look:

From AdWeek this behind the scenes of Spike Jonze's Apple Ad for HomePod is as fascinating as the film Itself. Incredible to see how much of this short film composition uses real set designs with moving parts, compression hydraulics and analogue movements with only limited VFX. And choreography, wow!

What amazed me is how they were able to create those stretch effects practically, rather than relying on digital manipulation. I love seeing talent in action like this.

A St. Louis native, Michael Wense is a writer, editor, technology goon, and kitchen connoisseur. When he’s not hunting down misplaced modifiers or common misspellings, he’s tinkering with a short story or obsessively collecting recipes. Sometimes he’ll just sit and watch cooking shows on Netflix for hours. Like a zombie. When it comes to fiction, he prefers potent pieces with a cutting emotional edge. Novels are good, but the punch of a perfect short story will bring him to his knees.
